- An excellent complete set in seven volumes [Bell & Daldy, London, 1867-72] of Edward Gibbon’s classic history – from Bohn’s British Classics series
- Small octavos uniformly bound in full calf with inlay border and decorative spine with five raised bands; marbled eps; all edges marbled
- Initial Editor was “a distinguished churchman & scholar” [Publisher’s Notice, Vol VII] with cause to query Gibbon’s “treatment of Christ’s religion”. Religious zeal discounted by Bohn in concluding volume, whose Notice also noted there being a change in Editors and other involvement in this self-described “best & most complete edition of Gibbon”.
