Are your books new or second-hand?
Both! Our books are selected across the spectrum of brand new, used & collectible/antiquarian items.
Most of our pre-loved books are in excellent/giftable condition [or major faults will be noted].
Shabbier copies are usually put on the sale shelf.


Do you buy books from people?
Yes – we are always looking for great stock for the shop.

It depends on many factors – but we are always happy to hear what you are looking for:


What is your BOOK AHEAD system?
If you have a particular interest area or are looking for gift recommendations, we can better prepare suggestions to have in stock if we have some lead time [two weeks is pretty good].

e.g. I’ll be in Adelaide in 2 weeks and collect vintage SF. I also need an Aussie classic for my 18yo niece overseas.


Do you accept donations?
Yes! We gratefully accept any donations dropped in-store during opening hours.
Orchard accepts [clean]:

  • books
  • cards/postcards [written on or blank]
  • bookmarks
  • photos
  • maps
  • pamphlets/brochures/manuals
  • other paper ephemera
  • bags

Are you still accepting bags?
Yes! We gratefully accept & reuse clean bags of any size/material dropped in-store during opening hours. Thank you!


I’m financially comfortable & love your shop – can I donate cash money to you?
Great question – yes you can! Check out our Support Orchard page for this and other ways you can help us to keep on keeping on.


Will you stock my self-published/indie book?
If you have self-published your book [paid for it to be printed/published] then unfortunately we don’t have the resources to consider it at this stage.
PLEASE DON’T EMAIL DETAILS OF YOUR BOOK [the volume we receive is overwhelming].


Will you stock my traditionally published book?
Authors of traditionally published books can attend a SHOW US YOUR BOOK! event in-store on the 1st Saturday of the month, 10am-2pm.
Bring in a couple copies of your book plus an “elevator pitch” & pricing/distribution details.
PLEASE DON’T EMAIL DETAILS OF YOUR BOOK [the volume we receive is overwhelming & it is not the best way to assess physical books].


Are you hiring?
Not at the moment, sorry!
If we require staff we will put the call out through existing channels [become an Orchardist by signing up to our infrequent newsletter or following us on facebook / instagram]
