It’s that time of year again, when Melbourne takes centre stage in celebrating the world’s finest books; hosting a series of events during Rare Book Week [24 July – 2 August] & culminating in the Rare Book Fair [31 July- 2 August, Wilson Hall, Melbourne University].

Orchard Bookshop is one of only two South Australian exhibitors at this prestigious event, which this year will see international exhibitors from the UK, Europe & Japan making up almost a third of the 35 booksellers showcasing their wares. It is fair to say that this three-day extravaganza will have a selection of the world’s finest books currently available for purchase on display!

Although we don’t carry the MRBF’s oldest, rarest or most expensive items, we are carving out our niche by exhibiting a cohesive selection that focusses on 20th Century Literature [with a few tangential offerings] in true Orchard fashion.

This year [our fifth MRBF] we are very excited to have a copy of Sylvia Plath’s first independently printed poem, A Winter Ship – one of only 60 copies made. Additionally, we have books signed by William Gibson [40th Anniversary deluxe edition of Neuromancer], Andy Weir [Ltd Ed of The Martian], Terry Pratchett, Noam Chomsky, China Mieville & others; plus deluxe editions of Nineteen Eighty-Four, The Lord Of The Rings & two beautifully bound works by Virginia Woolf!

So, we say to all our Victorian customers, please come and say ‘hello’, & to anyone else with the opportunity to snag a few days away, this is a truly wonderful excuse to visit Melbourne!
