New in-store… books by iconic Adelaide author & artist Barbara Hanrahan. We’re always on the lookout for books by this great female-perspective suburban chronicler & are fortunate to have a signed first edition of her first & best-known book The Scent Of Eucalyptus. It obviously holds pride of place among a stack of other titles, including Sea-Green, The Albatross Muff & a scarce first printing of Flawless Jade.
Barbara Hanrahan, grew up in Adelaide’s inner-west suburb of Thebarton in a matriarchal household consisting of mother, grandmother & great aunt (her father died when she was a baby). This fuelled her deeply personal writings & feminist-themed artwork & her writing especially provides great insight into life in suburban Adelaide in the middle of last century.
PS It’s always great to have a book with the sticker of The Murphy Sisters Bookshop – this feminist bookshop was a genuine landmark in the Adelaide book scene of the 1980s.
