An Adelaide Preview of items to be exhibited at the 2026 Melbourne Rare Book Fair [MRBF]
Each year, Orchard Bookshop joins around 30 of the finest booksellers from across Australia & the world to show off their finest acquisitions across three days in Melbourne University’s Wilson Hall. It is an extraordinary event where some of the rarest, most desirable, most beautiful & most expensive books in the world are exhibited before thousands of book lovers, collectors & institutions.
We set books aside especially for this event but, to reward our loyal customer base here in Adelaide, we’d like to offer you a sneak preview of the items to be displayed in Melbourne – with an opportunity for you to purchase something truly special before it is offered to those attending the Fair.
With an emphasis on female authors, our primary selection of approximately 100 items includes First Editions of books by Shirley Jackson, Donna Tartt, Sylvia Plath, Helen Garner & Mary Oliver; Art Books featuring Cressida Campbell, Robert Hannaford & Del Kathryn Barton; Deluxe Printings by Folio Society & Suntup Press, and a variety of attractive, collectible & unusual books.
A highlight is a genuine First Edition of Harry Potter & The Philosopher’s Stone! On a single day in June, 1997, 500 hardcover & 5,000 paperback copies of this book were printed. Many were disseminated to school libraries across the UK as no-one could have foreseen that this children’s book would become the most collectible item of modern times…
