Description

  • First Thus [Penguin Books, London, 1955]; 208 pages; illustrated card wraps, rubbed along edges, a few grubby marks, inside wraps tanned, rear base with marginal dampstain affecting last few leaves, pen on first page, pp91-2 dogeared, page block age-toned, leaching slightly into the page margins, a very good, solid copy
  • Decorations by John Milton as per First Edition [John Lehmann, London, 1950]
  • As David writes in the preface to this edition, the first edition of this book was written in the shadow of ww2 where food was less plentiful – the recipes intrinsically remain the same but she has “maybe added an extra couple of eggs here & there”
  • A Book Of Mediterranean Food was David’s first book. By the time this paperback was printed, she had also published French Country Cooking, Italian Food & Summer Cooking
  • A Penguin Handbook with H27 code on spine
